The Woman Calling
The Woman Calling marks the beginning of a new style of work for Andrew Kinsman; emulating Victorian romantic artists, he takes inspiration from classic literature and fuses it with art.
This piece is inspired by a combination of the Thomas Hardy poem ‘The Voice’ and subsequently by the life of his wife and feelings of solitude she may have experienced during their marriage.
Kinsman describes this work saying: “The idea is that of abandonment and so the waves washing away her desk where she writes her diaries symbolise neglect. It’s kind of a combination of the style of literal painting used in Victorian times with a contemporary feel of fantasy.”
