Challenging perceptions of masculinity, sexuality and heroism, Pop Punk artist Rich Simmons places Superman and Batman – two of the most iconic alpha male figures in popular culture – into an intimate embrace. This work captures a moment suspended between secrecy and revelation, where private intimacy is about to become public knowledge as an exposed photo.
The artwork asks whether we should define a hero by their actions rather than their lifestyle choices, as the capes wrap around them like a shield, symbolising both protection and vulnerability. For the artist, this work is about breaking down stereotypes and reminding us that strength comes in many forms.
