Free Flight with One White Balloon
Hand-signed Mixed Media Original Artwork by Billy Connolly.
Inspired by a Californian man who crafted a homemade aerostat from an ordinary lawn chair and 42 helium-filled weather balloons, Billy created this piece to celebrate the joy that can come from doing something totally useless. The flight appealed to Billy’s sense of humour as he believes people like that “make the world a finer place – doing something totally useless and making you smile. There’s nothing better you can do for the planet.”
Almost every element of the artwork is detailed with Billy’s signature linework. Breathing life into the piece, Billy adds vibrant splashes of colour to the cluster of balloons, leaving just one white. In true Billy style, the character is sporting a pair of bold striped trousers, rather like the comedian himself.
“I love trousers like that. I’ve worn them for many years. They make my legs happy as I walk along the street.”
