During lockdown, Bob Barker started working on very large canvases and this piece is one such example. Framed in textured black radiata pine, this hand-varnished boxed canvas edition is closer in size and texture to the original oil painting by Bob. The image itself is inspired by a number of pubs that Bob has loved across his lifetime; each one associates with a different memory and unlocks nostalgia unique to his childhood growing up in the industrial North. Featuring more contrasting colours than usual, pops of blue and red emerge out of the monochromatic street and warm streetlights in an atmospheric allegory to the local pubs and bars we all miss dearly.
