Sunshine Of LaRue

Showcased as part of his debut collection with Castle Fine Art, ‘Sunshine of LaRue’ is a portrait of the American X-rated film director, Chi Chi LaRue.

A renowned drag artist, LaRue rose to fame in the 1980s, appearing in Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ movie before going on to direct gay adult films. Becoming friends early in their careers, Boy Geroge has depicted the colourful character of LaRue in monochrome studs and beads – a mix of spiked embellishments and delicate sequins. Describing her as an ‘exhibitionist’, Boy George wanted to immortalise LaRue in his own punk style.

Boy George’s extraordinary collection of mixed media original and unique artworks are a sight to behold. Portraying a host of known and unknown icons, they explore themes of identity, reinvention and judgement. A true maximalist, no material is off limits, resulting in visual feasts that pour out of the frame.
