A reimagining of an antique relic with crumbling elements, Dan Lane uses contemporary references to bring the ideal forward into the modern day. ‘Blind To The World’ explores the human tendency towards emotional, environmental, or cultural blindness while simultaneously celebrating transformation and endurance, signified by the butterfly motif, often present in Lane’s art. A classical burst interpreted as a contemporary relic, the figure’s facial expression is serene, suspended between awareness and absence, antiquity and modernity, decay and grace.

The highly popular works have a contemporary, urban edge, but as an artist, Dan is hugely influenced by the creations of the Renaissance, and it’s the fusion of the two different styles that makes the pieces so special. Constantly constructing concepts as physical creations, Lane’s development and experimentation methods, coupled with his ability to blend thematic elements, result in work that is simultaneously stylistically distinct and ever evolving.
