Money Is Not Our God
The highly popular works have a contemporary, urban edge, but as an artist, Dan is hugely influenced by the creations of the Renaissance and it’s the fusion of the two different styles that make the pieces so special. The dark and thoughtful piece is full of contrasting details, incorporating elements in a balanced way, such as the opposing darkness and gothic representation of the skull, the money and the crown and the more romantic nature of love with the adorning butterflies.
"In this piece I play with the movement of the dollars and try to make them look as if they are falling. As they fall they are joined by butterflies which for me represents nature an all together more important thing. As this play between the money and butterflies happens the skull is looking up as if to prey to the money" the artist told us.
Constantly constructing concepts as physical creations, Lane’s development and experimentation methods coupled with his ability to blend thematic elements, results in work that is simultaneously stylistically distinct and ever evolving.
