Jiminy Cricket Original Production Cel And Drawing 9 (1970s) signed by Preston Blair

Made in 1939, Walt Disney's classic film Pinocchio was the studio's second ever feature film and continues to warm the hearts of audiences even 82 years later. Since then, the beloved conscience of Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, has continued to reappear in Disney productions; from shorts to educational children's films in the 1970s and beyond.

Famous for his work at Walt Disney Productions, Preston Blair was an a character animator having worked in major productions including Fantasia (1940), Pinocchio (1940), and Bambi (1942).

A production cel is a clear sheet of either cellulose nitrate (cel) or acetate onto which the character or characters have been traced and then painted. The most common method is for an animator’s drawing to be inked or xeroxed onto the front of the cel and then painted with colour on the back. Each second of animated film is made up of 24 individual cels which, when combined, create the illusion of life!
