The Lion King, Sequence of 9 by artist Thom Enriquez (1994)
Animator and storyboard artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios and DreamWorks Animation, Thom Enriquez was a vital piece of Disney story and character building, having worked on a lot of films and characters we all know and love. The artist was in charge of the story bord for The Lion King in the 90’s and has worked on multiple film including the 1989 “The Little Mermaid” as a storyboard artist; the 1991 “Beauty and the Beast” as key layout and workbook artist; the 1998 “Mulan”, the 2005 “Madagascar” and the more recent 2010 “How to Train Your Dragon” as a story artist.
With an award-winning soundtrack featuring numbers by Elton John and Hans Zimmer, and a cast with such voice actors as James Earl Jones, Whoopi Goldberg and Rowan Atkinson, it is unsurprising that Walt Disney's 1994 animated film 'The Lion King' continues to be a global favourite. It won two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, had two sequels and one prequel, spawned a global touring Broadway production and, most recently, a photo-realistic adaptation in 2019 featuring the voices of Beyoncé and Donald Glover. The original film from 1994 is still the high-grossing traditionally animated film of all time and this drawing is taken from an original storyboard created and used by the animators during the film's early production.
Displayed on its original, beautifully aged paper, this original set of nine storyboard drawings showcases the artistic nature of the early animations and their warmly expressive forms. Now mounted and framed, this piece is the perfect way to add a sophisticated and muted touch of Disney magic to your home. Match with another drawing from our Vintage Disney collection to create a perfect pair.
