Vanitas (Gold)

Vanitas (Gold)

Released as part of Gary James McQueen’s debut collection with Castle Fine Art, ‘Vanitas (Gold)’ showcases an image that is synonymous with the McQueen name in a completely new way.

Presented as a silkscreen for the first time, the design was originally created as the hero image for the BAFTA-nominated ‘McQueen’ film, paying tribute to the artist’s uncle, the late great fashion designer, Lee Alexander McQueen.

The image began as a hand-drawn sketch, before Gary James McQueen digitally sculpted the individual components and shaped them into a 3D skull.

Featuring delicate moths, elegant birds and live flowers, the piece contemplates the fragility of nature and the permanence of art. The artist creates a visual harmony between the form and the flora, the matte and the metallic, so that no individual element is fighting with another.

Available individually, or as part of a set of four. This image is also available as a lenticular artwork, which shows the flowers slowly wilting.

Please note this artwork has a fulfilment time of six weeks.
