Transformation

 After working for LEGO for 17 years, John brings a unique perspective to his cartoon-inspired original paintings.

 Inspired by Abstract Impressionism and his young daughter’s artistic self-expression, his paintings allow the original pencil sketches to live in the layers of paint. Recognisable characters are presented as both entire beings and a unique combination of shapes, patterns and colour.

 This piece is inspired by Matt Groening’s legendary characters from the longest-running scripted primetime TV series in the US, The Simpsons. John adds: “What happens when two ordinary Minifigures read about a superhero? They transform! The Simpsons Minifigures created a frenzy in the office when they were released. It’s amazing how a cape can make even Milhouse look tough.”
