Considered to be one of the most iconic artworks of the 20th century and, indeed, across all of art history, 'Nighthawks' by Edward Hopper has been admired, recreated, and adapted over the 80 years since its creation in 1941. Likewise, 'Gas, 1940' features a strange yet familiar landscape that comments on the pervasion of industrialism on nature, a theme characteristic of Edward Hopper's starkly beautiful realism. Here, both epochal artworks have been captured by internationally acclaimed artist John Myatt in a beautiful hand-embellished stretched canvas.

As production continues on his own film biopic that sets to capture the incredible life and career of the world-famous art forger, here John has turned to one of his own favourite artists. The work of American realist Edward Hopper, as John describes, captures a deeper understanding of life in an urban and industrial society. Using bold contrasts and geometrically designed compositions, John has not only captured the gorgeous modern aesthetics of his work but, also the dramatic narratives that speak of isolation, familiarity and cityscapes.
