X-Ray III

X-Ray III

In a haunting juxtaposition of a woman and a skull, ‘X-Ray III’ is an exploration of life and the contrast between innocence and mortality. With a long-standing fascination for human anatomy and portraiture, Joseph Jones’s work explores the intricacies of the form in a dynamic and immersive way.

Softly lit and almost translucent, the woman’s face is portrayed almost floating in the foreground, with her form merging or evolving into the skull. Utilising the anaglyph technique, a practice with the interplay of cyan and red layers, Joseph Jones amplifies the surreal and ethereal atmosphere of the artwork.

Inviting the viewer to engage with the artwork and multiple realities at once, the artist conveys the passage of time and transformation. The artwork invites introspection, with the anaglyph technique introducing another layer of meaning, conveying that truth, like time itself, can be seen differently depending on one’s perspective.

The red and cyan creates an optical illusion that makes the image vibrate, reinforcing the theme of transition between the physical and the ethereal. The textures are carefully balanced, soft gradients for the girl’s skin contrast with the rough, timeworn surface of the skull.

This artwork is a hand-signed laminated giclée on paper limited edition and it’s also available in a framed set.
