Golden Lives Never Forgotten
Each of the bronze figures is vermeil-coated with 18 carat gold by hand. At the foot of the poppy is rust and soil scraped from an exploded German shell which landed on the British line during the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium in 1917.
As a reminder of the significance of the poppy, Nic has added the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae to the back of every sculpture. The gold symbolises that every life was golden and will never be forgotten. The edition size is 11 to represent Armistice Day, which is celebrated on November 11th each year to mark the end of the Great War in 1918.
Please note that due to the delicate nature of Nic’s wall sculptures, we recommend collection from your local gallery.
