Patience

Utterly stunning and heart-warming in more ways than one, this intricate wall sculpture by Nic Joly depicts a small boat stuck in the ocean. Calm and connected through the reassurance of companionship, the small couple hold a comforting sign that reads 'This Storm Will Pass'. The ocean in this artwork is painstakingly pieced together with blue glass beads from the Middle East, each a different shape, colour and hue. Meanwhile, the miniature boat is an intricate wooden carving cast in solid bronze and hand-painted imperfectly to resemble weathered fishing boats seen in the Mediterranean. Finally, on the boat of each and every edition in this artwork is a small blue bead, part of a necklace once worn by the artist's own grandmother! These stunning hand embellishments ensure that the artwork makes a powerful yet refined artistic statement in any interior.

A continuation of Nic Joly's collection Lessons Learnt, which launched in mid 2022, this artwork joins the rest of the release in casting an eye on lessons of personal growth. An intimate look into the artist's life and work, this body of work is also highly relatable in its important messages around mental health including the stigma of men reaching out for support as well as practicing patience with yourself; adding to the beauty of this already magnificent 3D artwork.
