Deep in Paul’s imagination is a world of green hills, sunset skies and trees whose leaves never fall. Celebrating his love of the countryside, his new pieces intertwine everyday family experiences with a technique influenced by airbrushing, animation and 3D modelling software.
His paintings begin with a small 5-10cm sketch and evolve through light and shadow once he has selected the colour of the sky.
Paul says: "This is another painting inspired by the red sandstone of Devon. As a family, we often holiday on the border of Cornwall and Devon, where we visit a lot of the small coastal towns and villages. Here, you can see those red iron oxide stained cliffs, which date back over 400 million years. Amongst my tubes of oil paint, I have a tube of transparent oxide red, which is made from very finely-ground iron oxide – perfect for capturing the natural beauty of the Devon coast."
