Electric City

For this painting, Paul accentuated the lights of the cars using dripped lines to capture the fast pace and never-ending excitement of New York. This draws viewers’ eyes into the distance, suggesting there is more to see beyond the confines of the painting.

He adds: “Along with exposed photographic films of the city, I was inspired by Turner’s use of red to accentuate the intensity of the light and bring the painting to life.”
