NY Nightfall

This incredible signed oil on aluminium artwork by Paul Kenton is simultaneously full of colour and darkness. Using sharp, small, and colourful accents, the artist has brought the gritty and hustle of New York city to life accentuated by the representation of light, which has always been a key medium for Kenton’s breath-taking cityscapes. The Manhattan skyline comes alive with the dazzling lights and their reflection on the river, creating a feeling of both calm and excitement.

“I have always been captivated by night time city views such as this one in New York, and inspired to paint the transformative effects that sundown has on the urban landscape” the artist told us.

In this new collection, Kenton’s showcasing some of the most iconic cityscapes notorious for their vibrant atmospheres and unique architecture: London, New York, Venice, and Tokyo. As a running theme through Paul’s paintings, he has used light source as his main inspiration to capture a combination of romantic and lively atmospheres, through his style of impressionist painting. Painted on metal, the artist uses oil paint that can go up to 20 layers. Kenton leaves some of the metal exposed which gives another dimension to light, allowing it to reflect surrounding surfaces. All the light is emphasised from the darkness, creating a beautiful strong contrast.
