The Wind Knows Him
Hand-signed Mixed Media Original by Raphael Mazzucco.
Timed to the energy of London Fashion Week, Whispers of the Soul is a powerful collection by renowned artist and photographer Raphael Mazzucco, drawn from a self-directed shoot for Collectible DRY magazine. Taking couture fashion imagery from the page to permanence in a fine art collection full of atmosphere, strength and lasting presence, this body of work moves beyond the editorial moment to sit at the intersection of high fashion couture, soul-led storytelling, and fine art — images not merely captured, but to be lived with.
A modern fashion editorial rooted in Indigenous inspiration, where the soul is not just a concept, but a presence woven into fabric, landscape, and motion, the project brings together fashion, Indigenous inspiration, identity and spirituality as interconnected forms of expression.
Shot in late summer 2025 on Mazzucco’s own land in Connecticut, and styled by Oretta Corbelli, the shoot brings together couture from some of the world’s most revered fashion houses — Chanel, Prada, Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Giorgio Armani — set within misted forest clearings and open landscapes. Removed from runway spectacle and editorial urgency, the garments are treated as sculptural forms, held in light, movement and stillness where fashion becomes presence.
Through Mazzucco’s experienced lens and a restrained and elemental palette of rust, ochre, deep green, sky blue, these elements meet with ease, resulting in powerful imagery stripped back to its essence.
Hand-poured resin, collage and surface mark-making transform each work into a living piece, carrying traces of the shoot beyond the moment it was made. The layered approach reflects a practice shaped by long-standing artistic dialogue, experimentation and lived experience.
For more than two decades, Mazzucco’s photographs have shaped the visual language of fashion and culture — from Vogue, Marie Claire and Sports Illustrated to defining campaigns for GUESS Jeans, and portraits of figures such as Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima, Gigi Hadid, Adrien Brody and Pamela Anderson.
Former Vogue Paris Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld calls him “one of my favourite artists” and legendary art dealer Louis Meisel describes Mazzucco as “as innovative in what I feel is ‘real art’ as any artist I have seen in decades.”
Yet this body of work moves beyond the editorial moment to sit at the intersection of high fashion couture, soul-led storytelling, and fine art — images not merely captured, but to be lived with.
“Fashion has always been a language for me — but it’s never been the subject. It’s the material that allows emotion to surface.” — Raphael Mazzucco
