After being crowned the winner of our IN:SIGHT 2018 competition, we are proud to release Richard’s debut body of work – inspired by the humble pooch!
Fascinated by patterns, the artist and graphic designer is influenced by Andy Warhol and 1960s Op artists, including Victor Vasarely and Richard Anuszkiewicz. He is particularly intrigued by the potential of an image to transform through flat colours and geometric shapes, describing it as “mesmeric”.
Speaking on this piece, he says: “The pit bull has a powerful presence. In my representation, much of its potential aggression has been removed to make it a peaceful dog with a non-threatening facial expression.”
