Forever Sycamore

Forever Sycamore

Richard Rowan’s latest collection is a true visual love letter to nature and the special connection we share with it. Capturing these rare, and fleeting occurrences, the ground-breaking contemporary glass painter revisits captivating auroras from around the world, allowing everyone a glimpse of their magical light.

Inspired by the auroras of Finland, Iceland and, most recently, the UK, Rowan uses varying compositions and colours to capture the changing and ever-unique appearance of the lights.

‘Forever Sycamore’ features a, now particularly poignant, silhouette of the ‘Sycamore Gap’ tree near Hadrian’s Wall, which was sadly felled in an act of vandalism in 2023, leaving many heartbroken. Visited by millions, the tree stood in a dramatic dip in the land yet, against the odds, went on to grow to nearly 40 metres tall.

Those who have witnessed the auroras will have experienced their wonder; the spectrum of colours created by nature. Yet the way Rowan captures the skyline reveals a more vivid image than can be seen with the naked eye or in a photograph, with rich colours and contrasts.

Rowan also pairs each of his artworks with a song; the track he was listening to when painting it. For this artwork, Rowan listened to ‘The King’ from Tony Anderson’s album, ‘The Heart of Man’. Enjoying the art and music together is a truly ambient experience.

This artwork is a hand-signed flatbed giclée on glass by Richard Rowan and it’s available in a set of three.
