People Get Ready

Introducing a new dimension to his iconic big cats, ‘People Get Ready’ exhibits a leopard painted almost entirely in blue tones. Oxley has made a change from his usual kaleidoscopic colour palette yet instils his usual level of incredible detail into this painting using black and white hues.

Named after the Bob Marley and the Wailers song, ‘One Love / People Get Ready’, this monochrome original painting features Oxley’s signature detailed eyes. The eyes of the leopard are in absolute focus, a stark contrast from the hallucinatory style of the rest of the painting. With his limited blue palette, Oxley precisely captures the essence of the leopard in this painting.

A new palette streamlined Oxley’s work and allowed him to experiment with a different approach. Oxley’s distinctive drip effect gives the leopard’s spots a liquid look, expressing the fluid movements of this big cat on the canvas.
