Satisfy My Soul

Satisfy My Soul

The continuous swirling lines Oxley uses in this original painting capture the grace and motion of the lion in the wild. The artist creates this feeling of movement, almost like a breeze, in the bold zigzags of the lion’s mane. Using his palette of blue tones to enhance the detail of the painting, Oxley gives the piece a sense of life.

After experimenting with a range of colours, Oxley ultimately chose blue due to its calming nature. Discovering that using one colour streamlined his work, he modified his approach to painting, finding the form of the lion first before adding his signature drips. The eyes of the lion captivate the viewer as they are steady whilst the rest of the piece exhibits a dream-like effect.

Named after the song ‘Satisfy My Soul’ by Bob Marley and the Wailers, the monochrome palette of this painting allows Oxley’s technique to shine through in a new way.
