The Dream Belongs To The Dreamer

In a brand-new body of work the wildlife British painter, Robert Oxley, takes inspiration from iconic 20th century paintings. Oxley’s interpretation sits at an experimental mood, and while the genre is distinct from his famous big cats artworks, the painter’s style shines through in the kaleidoscopic colour palette and expressive brushwork.

Inspired by 'The Dream' by French post-impressionist painter Henri Rousseau, Oxley’s surrealistic and psychedelic style is evident in this artwork. While Rousseau’s painting features an almost surreal portrait of a woman, Oxley’s features one of his most loved big cats, a lion. The bright greens and pops of orange and blues are authentic and deliberate, bringing a magical and fantastical element to the artwork.
