Spring 2025 | Framed Set of Two

In Shazia’s 2025 collection, the artist returns with two brand new artworks. In ‘Maude and Mable’, a gently haunting portrait, Shazia’s ability to capture the people she has known through her life shines through. Inspired by a memory on her first day of school, the artwork portrays a pair of twins on a winter day. The artist immortalised the sisters to the smallest details including the blue gloves, as the artist explains “Just before the snow fell and turned everything opaque, I managed to snatch a memory of them sharing a pair of elbow length blue gloves.”.

In ‘Ida’ Shazia’s ability to draw on her imagination and past memories is brought to light. Inspired by a reoccurring dream the artist had as a child, the artwork portrays a female figure surrounded by golden Koi. In the dream, the bedspread would consume the artist and drag her into the dark abyss before fragmenting into golden Koi and swimming away, leaving her alone in the darkness. Capturing the duality of this experience – the weight of being consumed by a bad dream and the hope that comes from the smallest sources of light – this artwork embodies the delicate dance between the unknown and known and comfort and fear.
