The Bum Notes
With bright pops of yellow, blue, and pink featuring across this graphic composition, Stephen Roby's distinct style shines through. The British artist mixes all of his colours (including black) from the three basic primary colours of red, yellow, and blue, and this meticulous process means each painting can take up to three months to complete. He also uses bold lines and shapes to draw the viewers eye across the composition and blur the boundary between human and architectural forms much like the first Cubism artists.
This particular piece was inspired by a performance that Stephen witnessed in York where he described a jazz duo's timing and tuning as "not the best". This creative, satisfying and amusing image was thus born through the artist's unique mind and forms part of his first collection with us.
