Whatshisname transforms the powerful image of the Statue of Liberty, distorting her familiar commanding pose into one that appears as an act of rioting. Resembling the figure in Banksy’s iconic ‘Flower Thrower’ painting, which has become synonymous with movements against violence and discrimination, the initial concept of throwing a flaming torch suggests violence.

However, viewers are encouraged to question the symbolic significance of the flame and whether it is, in fact, a gesture of personal freedom and liberty. Inspired by political art and global events of recent years, the piece explores what ‘right’ looks like, whichever side of the barricade you stand on.
